Across the ocean

Small moments of good days

Set aside the scripted interactions the world requires.

Set aside the asynchronous semi-interactions that happen on places like Bear.

Set aside everything you read, see, hear, experience on or off a screen, when you're essentially alone while doing so.

What's left are moments of unscripted personal interactions. Genuine connections between people who probably don't know each other. A question, a joke, a wave, a smile. A brief break from rushing to the next task.

Society isn't built around maximizing those interactions. Which you can appreciate if you're in line behind two people who are having one. Besides, scripting them kills them. Companies try. Forcing employees to greet and interact with a falseness that ironically can be the source of a shared eyeroll at the ridiculousness of the script.

I try to notice those moments, without trying to script them myself. I rarely get to ten in a day. But the more there are, the better that day seems to be.
