Resource allocation
I’ve been part of the same organization for about 20 years, and one of the few constants is being told that resources are scarce. Despite policies and rubrics on how resources (positions, money and space mostly) are allocated, from my perspective it’s always seemed intentionally opaque, controlled more by the priorities of individuals currently in power than any consistent metrics.
But I’m a low-to-sometimes-mid-level part of this organization, and my perceptions aren’t necessarily accurate. So I went back over every resource request/plea and upper admin response/edict that I have records for:
- Fewer resources, no explanation: 8
- Fewer resources, corresponding to stated metrics: 0
- Same resources, no explanation: 11
- Same resources, corresponding to stated metrics: 0
- More resources, no explanation: 1
- More resources, corresponding to stated metrics: 1
Given these stats and no other information, I wonder what people would conclude about the effectiveness of our organization, and our unit.
